One Week Away!

So, a week from today we will be on our way back to Haiti. I cannot begin to thank everyone for your awesome donations. We have 4 suitcases at the church just spilling with donations for the orphanage and school. I know Kristi has has an entire car filled with clothing, medical supplies and such. We have the difficult task of going through donations to see what we can fit on this trip and which donations will go in January. This truly speaks volumes about the generous hearts of so many people in this world.
The total cost for this trip has been estimated at approximately $850. This includes airfare, transportation from the DR to Haiti, hotel in Dajabon, all taxi services, all food, a love offering, border fees, transportation back to Puerto Plata, as well as our final hotel stay before heading back home. This is for a 5 day stay. I hope this gives you a road map for costs if you are even remotely thinking of going on a trip like this.
We will be taking donations which include school supplies, clothing, dishes, over the counter meds, books and toys for the kids. The children in our Vacation Bible School made small felt stuffed turtles for all of the children in the orphanage. Each turtle has a little front pocket which has a special letter written from the kids here to the children in Haiti. I can't wait to see them receive these sweet little gifts!
Our next trip to Haiti is scheduled for January 4th through the 10th. This trip has an "art" theme. We plan to take different types of art inspired team members to work with the children in the school and orphanage. We would love to expand on their basic understanding of art as well as bring back some of their art work to turn into t-shirts, post cards, stationary, etc... All proceeds will go back into the building of their school. It is our hope to bring the students in Haiti along side our efforts in building their own school. This certainly gives them a sense of ownership in making this dream come true.
With the instruction and leadership of my dear friend Tim Burns, we hope to record songs from the school choir which will be available for download once the official website is up and running. Again, all proceeds go directly into the fund raising efforts for the future school build. I would also like to send a special thank you to Mike Sukow for offering to put together our "restorehaiti" website.
I hope to be able to send updates directly from Haiti as well as photos, so please follow along!
Many blessings....
